Ana stared at the young woman's grave before her. Shannon Rutherford. She was still young. Almost still a child. Ana felt sick with herself. She had a life ahead of her and Ana had taken it away.
Shannon was in love. Sayid had been there to witness his own lovers death. Ana could remember the look on his sad and traumatised face. And she had caused this pain.
Remorse. Regret. She felt so guilty. Like she had been the one that should have died. It was for such a stupid reason. She felt like she could be reduced to tears at any moment. And because of her stupid mistake everyone hated her. Ana Lucia-the idiotic bitch who took away an innocent life. And Ana believed the same thing about herself.

"Y'know, I've heard people say that it's bad to just sit around moping," said Charlie, walking up behind Ana-Lucia. It was obvious as to why she was here. Shannon. She felt bad about being a murderer, which was understandable.
Charlie knew how she felt. Kind of. In a way. Well, when he had killed someone, it had been one of the bad guys, so it had been okay in a strange sort of way. Ana had killed one of the good guys, which was bad.
He had been wandering around aimlessly, trying to get his mind off of the situation with Claire and Aaron, when he'd seen Ana-Lucia sitting in their make-shift graveyard. Charlie had the idea of just passing on by and letting her go on and wallow in her own grief, but something in him decided to exchange a few words.
He walked over and sat down next to her. "If you're gonna mope, at least do it in a happy place and not here next to this lot," he suggested. "You could pretend you're in a field of butterflies while you think about death. It's grim, but at least you're in a happy place," he told her with a goofy smile.
Charlie had no idea if he was helping at all. He was probably just making Ana-Lucia feel worse. If he was, he'd at least go away so she could mope by herself in this morose place. It's not what he would do, but hey, each to their own, right?
((Charlie's such a goof! He's great! lol.))

(Lol, Gotta love Charlie!)
Ana noticed Charlie had approached her. She sighed. The pair did not get along well. She could see he was making an effort to cheer her up but he was just rubbing it in as it seemed. "I suppose you'd know all about your happy place. I'm sure you can escape from all your mistakes just like that!" she snapped her fingers, "But me? I don't have a happy place. I'm miserable 24/7." She looked down to her shoes. She knew that was harsh but it was true. This would taunt her for the rest of her life and so would her fellow castaways, "Why are you here anyway," she mumbled.

"I'm miserable 24/7."
"They have therapy for that, ya know," said Charlie. "And I hear that Libby chick is some sort of shrink. You could always talk to her about it."
Now he knew that he was just making things worse... he could tell. Maybe he should just leave. But Charlie felt some sort of need to stay. He had no idea what it was, but it was there.
"Why are you here anyway?"
Charlie turned his head to look at Ana-Lucia. "I know what it's like to be an outcast," he told her. With all the problems with his (previous) drug use, the apparent 'kidnapping' of the baby... he'd been cast out of their little society.
And there was that time he'd killed Ethan. Of course, when that had happened, people tried to make him feel better. Charlie didn't think there was much he could do about making Ana feel better.
"Being an outcast stinks in the world's worst way," he said, "but there are perks." He paused for a moment. "You have plenty of time to yourself. And you can do pretty much whatever you want because people already hate you; it'd be difficult to get their opinion of you lowered much more even if you ran around nude. Not that I'm suggesting anything, of course," he added quickly, hoping Ana-Lucia wouldn't take that last statement the wrong way.

Ana shook her head. This guy was rambling, wasn't he? Maybe she should tell him to go away so she could be by herself. But strangely she wanted him to stay. She didn't like being alone sometimes. It was horrible having people hate her. And although Charlie and Ana didn't exactly like each other he was spending time with her. Wasn't someone talking to her better than being left alone?
"Well thanks," Ana said sarcastically. Charlie had just confirmed everybody did hate her. She knew he was right but hearing it was ten times worse then knowing it, "What do you suggest I do?" she asked half not expecting a sensible answer.

Charlie thought about his answer for a moment. "Just wait until things blow over a little bit," he told her. "That's what I do. Stay out of people's way. Eventually, something else is going to happen that'll take all the attention off of you. I'll probably go and do something stupid again which will make everyone hate me even more. You'd be off the hook!" he said with a smile.
Of course, he wasn't going to go out and do something stupid intentionally, that would just be... stupid. But he wasn't exactly the most intelligent person in the world so it was hard to say what was going to happen.

Ana didn't like the idea of waiting. She wasn't a patient person. The fact was she had shot someone who a lot of people knew and cared about. Nothing would top that. Not now anyway, "How well did you know her?" Ana asked randomly staring at the young woman's grave, "Shannon, were you friends?" She had never met the woman so she had no clue what she was like. But it sounded as if she was liked. Everyone hated her because she had caused her death so she must have had many friends here.

Charlie looked at the grave in front of him, remembering all he could about Shannon before answering Ana's question. "She was more of an acquaintance, really," he replied. "I caught a fish for her once," he recalled, remembering back to their first few days on the island.
Charlie had never really gotten to know Shannon, though. They knew each other, but they never hung out. He thought she was a bit of a snob, really.

Ana didn't reply. She looked on silently. Thinking. Wondering what would have happened if she had never pulled the trigger. She remembered Jack's face when they were reunited. It made her heart break, "I..I didn't mean to," she said though it was obvious. She wouldn't have shot an innocent life on perpose, "We had just lost Cindy and I..," this was hard for her to admit. She didn't even know why she was telling this to Charlie, "I was scared." she paused remembering the feeling when she had pulled the trigger on that gun and how it reminded her of when she shot that bastard who killed her only baby.

Charlie listened to Ana talk, not interrupting. She admitted that she had been scared, which took a lot of guts. "It takes a bit to admit that," he said quietly, looking at the make-shift cross with the name 'Shannon Rutherford' engraved on it.
"I shot someone, too," he said a bit suddenly. Charlie surprised himself by saying it. He hadn't really talked with anyone about Ethan. "The circumstances were different than yours, but that still doesn't change the fact that it's murder."
Again, he didn't know if he was making the situation better or worse. He was just talking, but now he wasn't trying to be silly.

"Ethan," answered Charlie. Knowing that Ana-Lucia wouldn't know who that was, he elaborated a little bit. "He was one of Them. Pretended to be one of us. He kidnapped Claire and I one day, strung me up to a tree by my neck. When Claire came back, so did he. I had to protect her so..." Charlie's voice tapered off. He had to protect Claire so he had killed a man. Did that make him a bad person?
He knew that the person he had killed was a lot different from the one Ana had killed. Shannon was liked, loved. Ethan was a cruel, heartless man who deserved what he had gotten. But he tried to not dwell on it anymore.

Ana stayed silent as she listened to Charlie. She could tell he had strong feelings for this Claire girl. She couldn't take comfort in knowing Charlie was a murderer too. That was because it was totally different. Charlie did it to protect someone he cared about. Ana acted on her own selfish impulse. Because she wasn't thinking-Because she was scared, "Sounds like you did us all a favour," she muttered, "I killed One Of Them too. Up on our side of the island. He was gonna kill me but," she paused as she remembered that day when she stabbed a piece of wood through Goodwin's heart, "I beat him to it," she added. She really was cold. She wasn't afraid to kill. It was the aftermath which bothered her.

Charlie listened as Ana-Lucia recalled the time she had killed one of the Others on their side of the island. Seemed like they had that in common. Ethan had already almost killed him, and Ana's Other was going to kill her. It was self-defense (or, in Charlie's case, defending loved ones). Which was understandable.
"You and I could start a support group," he said after a moment. "It'll be the 'I Killed an Other' club. We can have meetings and membership cards and Christmas parties." Okay, he was being silly again. This probably wasn't the best time for jokes... But Charlie had already said it; he couldn't take it back.

Ana smirked slightly, "You find this easy don't you. Being here with all these people. It's no problem for you," Ana could tell Charlie was social. And he liked to joke. How could he be so optomistic?
