Ana couldn't help smiling at Zack's comment, "I bet they would have. It's just a shame they're not here now," she chose another question to ask. She had many after all these Others were mysterious. She just hoped Kate would get back soon, "When they first took you," began Ana, "from the beach all that time ago. Where did they take you?"

The two children were silent for a moment as they thought about the question. "I couldn't see anything," answered Zack. "It was dark and they put something over my eyes so I couldn't see."
"We only ever saw the basement thing they kept us in," added Emma. "Oh!" she said, remembering something. "They let us go to their houses once," she said. "We got to bake cookies with one of the ladies. We only did that one time, though."
Zack nodded. "Yeah! They were chocolate chip cookies!" he said excitedly. "And we even got to eat some of it before we put it in the oven." Cookie dough was the best stuff, and they weren't allowed to have it very often.

Ana's eyes widened, "Houses? What you mean like those little mud huts?" Mud huts would make sense but proper buildings-it couldn't be possible, could it?

Emma shook her head. "No. Real houses. There were couches and beds and sinks and bathrooms..."
"They made us take a bath..." said Zack, not looking too happy about it.
Emma just smiled a bit at her brother's statement. "They were nice houses. I think there was a whole neighborhood, but I couldn't really tell. When we went outside, they made us wear blindfolds." The people hadn't been mean to them at all, but Emma had never really started to like those people.

"Neighbourhoods? On this island?" Ana was just down right confused now. How could that be possible? That these people had houses and furniture and food while the survivors of oceanic 815 survived on fruit, fish and dwindling boar. Wait til Kate here's this. "So these people," she changed the subject, "What were they like?"

"Mr. Tom was nice," said Zack with a nod. He liked Mr. Tom. He let them play fun games instead of the stupid ones that they always lost at. "And Mrs. Klugh doesn't laugh very much," he added.
"And we saw Mr. Ben once, too. I liked him," said Emma. "He was really nice. No one was really mean or anything." They hadn't been abused or yelled at, in fact, it had almost been nice being over there. But there had just been something about the situation that Emma hadn't liked, so she and Zack escaped.

"Ben?" she asked as if that name meant something to her, "What about their behaviour? Were they normal? Or did they do anything.....unusual at all. I mean apart from the games they made you play."

Emma shrugged a bit. "They seemed normal enough to me," she commented. "I think some of them were doctors... they gave us shots."
"Yeah, and they hurt!" exclaimed Zack, remembering the day that had seemed like a doctor's visit. They went through a little examination, just to make sure they hadn't gotten sick when the plane crashed. At least, that's what they'd been told. "And they even took some blood! See?"
Zack held out his arm and pointed to a spot in the crook of his elbow. It was barely visible any more, but there was a little spot from where a needle had been stuck there.

Ana was shocked to hear that has given these kids injections, "What affect did these injections have on you?" she asked, "Do you know?" Hopefully it wasn't to effect them badly.

Emma just shrugged her shoulders again. "I don't know. They told us it was to make sure we didn't get sick," she said. "The doctor said that there were a lot of different germs out here and we might get sick because we were so little." It had made enough sense to her, no matter how much she didn't like getting the shots.
Zack nodded in agreement. He had been scared about getting the shots; usually when he went to the doctor his mommy was there to tell him that it was okay. But here... Emma hadn't even been in the room with him. That was one of the bad days that he'd had. It had been scary.

"They have medicine," Ana muttered. Maybe they should inform Jack soon, "You say it was to keep you from getting sick," Ana thought to herself, If there was any chance of us getting sick we must've by now But then she realised when Emma mentioned about their age. That would make sense. It's common for little kids to be more vulnerable to illnesses then adults, "Did they ever...tell you anything about their lives? For instance did they mention how long they's been here? How they got here?"

Zack shook his head. "They never talked about theirselves," he said.
"They mostly wanted to know about us," put in Emma. They had asked them all kinds of questions, but whenever they would curiously ask anything about Them, they'd change the subject or say that it didn't really matter. They were a weird bunch of people.

"They asked you questions. What kind of questions? Personal questions? Or general questions?" Ana asked bemused. She really didn't know why these Others were so interested in kids.

"All kinds of questions," answered Zack. "They asked me if I had any pets and if I was sick, if I ever had chicken pox. Then they asked if anything weird had ever happened when I got mad or scared."
Emma nodded in agreement to everything Zack was saying. "They also asked about our parents and things we did back home. Why had we been on the plane by ourselves, we both of our parents alive. They even wanted to know our address and phone number," she added, trying to think of everything that had been asked of them. But it had been a lot of question and Emma could really remember everything.

How very interesting. But confusing all the same. It was time to ask about their whereabouts. It was time Ana found out where these people lived, "When you escaped...do you remember the route you took?"
